Bryant students win regional competition

SMITHFIELD – Bryant University’s Students in Free Enterprise group won first place in the Students In Free Enterprise Regional Competition, held March 22 in Boston, advancing to the national competition for the fifth time in six years. That event will be held in Dallas in June.
The competition included a 23-minute formal presentation on the projects the group completed this year and a five-minute question-and-answer session with a panel of judges.
This year, the Bryant SIFE completed 16 projects, ranging from a “business simulation” program that helped K-12 students start their own businesses, to on-campus programs such as an E-Pitch competition in which students made sales pitches about their business ideas.
Other projects included teaching the elderly how to use the Internet, seminars on ethics, programs on the environment and recycling, and an effort with the Rhode Island Coalition for Minority Investment and the Providence Rescue Mission to develop programs to teach business principles to women and aspiring entrepreneurs.
More than 70 students participated in the various projects throughout the year.
