ELIZABETH CATUCCI was recently named the new CEO and president of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce. She succeeds John C. Gregory, who served as the Chamber’s leader for 27 years. Catucci, a North Providence resident, recently served as the director of marketing and business development for PFK O’Connor Davies LLC, which has an office in Providence. The firm was formerly Batchelor, Frechette, McCrory, Michael & Co. She also served on the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors and was named a winner in Providence Business News’ 40 Under Forty program in 2018.
What initially attracted you to wanting to work for the Chamber? The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce has been one of my greatest resources for making new business connections. I can truly speak to the value and importance of the Chamber, as it has been a conduit to my success. After serving on the Northern Rhode Island Chamber board the past four years, my passion grew. I knew I wanted to serve the Chamber and other professionals in the business community by influencing the strategy and direction of the organization.
What are your plans for the Chamber as the new CEO and president? My first priority [is] the people; the members, the staff and the board. I plan to spend as much time as possible with current members and sponsors. As we shape the next chapter, I want to hear their feedback on how the Chamber can provide more value to their business and the community. This type of information will be critical as we move forward with the strategic planning process.
What do you feel is needed to help the business community continue to grow in northern Rhode Island? Access. Access to emerging trends, areas of opportunity, political insight, thought leadership, education and an understanding of the diversity of our community. I believe the Northern Rhode Island Chamber can be at the forefront by providing this type of access to the business community through unique networking and educational events.
You have told us before that you hope to continue to work with nonprofits. In addition to your new role with the Chamber, is working with nonprofits still high on your priority list? Absolutely. There are numerous members of the Chamber that are nonprofits. I believe the Chamber has much to offer a nonprofit … in the way of influence, interaction, insight and impact. In my new role, I will be able to serve as a connector, bringing parties together for the benefit of their mission.
