Chamber program saves businesses on energy

WARWICK – Businesses in a group electricity-purchasing program saved up to 25 percent off their November electric bills, the group’s organizer announced this month.
Put together by the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, the consortium comprises 13 Rhode Island chambers of commerce. The group combines the power needs of participating businesses, then puts the accounts out on the real-time, spot market, averages the prices and sends participants monthly bills. Chamber members can move in and out of the program when it makes financial sense.
“Within 12 months this group has the potential of becoming the single largest purchaser of energy in New England,” said Tony Parente from Teknikor Action Energy, the company that manages the group for the chamber.
Chambers participating in the group include Central Rhode Island, Charlestown, Cranston, East Greenwich, East Providence, Narragansett, Newport County, North Central, North Kingstown, Northern Rhode Island, Pawtuxet Valley, South Kingstown and Westerly-Pawcatuck. &#8226
