Conservancy buys 41 acres in Hopkinton

HOPKINTON – The Nature Conservancy has purchased 41 acres of wooded land here and plans to add it to the Canonchet Brook Preserve in the Borderlands area.
The environmental group purchased the land for $200,000 from the Greene Plastics Corp. and announced the deal this month.
While the Nature Conservancy purchased the land, the R.I. Department of Environmental Management bought a conservation easement using federal money and a grant from The Champlin Foundations.
The conservancy said it has no plans to build trails on the land. However, it is enhancing trails and signage on the adjacent 600-acre Canonchet Brook Preserve. •
