Hemorrhoids are one of the most common ailments in the country, affecting more than half of the population, according to industry estimates. Stapled hemorrhoidopexy is considered a less-painful alternative to surgical hemorrhoidectomy procedures, Covidien said.
Covidien said its new stapler set aids in each of the four steps in the procedure: dilation, purse-string placement, tissue incorporation, and stapling and resection. The company said its design includes features that allow for better tissue access and visibility, in addition to more consistent results.
Covidien is currently organizing a clinical study involving the product, which it said demonstrates its commitment to evidence-based medicine, and plans to publish clinical experience papers on the product’s use.
