Cox adds wireless to telephone services

WARWICK – Cox Communications entered the wireless telephone market in Rhode Island today, partnering with Sprint to launch cell phone service across New England.
The Pivot wireless phone service links up with Cox’ cable, high-speed Internet and home phone services, offering a suite of video, digital telephone, Internet and wireless phone services to Cox’ nearly 450,000 customers in Rhode Island and Connecticut, said Cox spokeswoman Leigh Ann Woisard.
“Now we have what’s referred to in the industry as the ‘quad-play,’ if you will – it’s video, high-speed Internet, digital phone and now wireless – and what’s particularly beneficial is they can all be combined on a single bill,” she said. “Our research tells us that that is something very important to our customers.”
Pivot combines Cox’s traditional and wireless networks to bring more useful capabilities to customers, such as one-button access to the Internet, home and wireless e-mail and mobile TV.
“The product is designed to make customers feel at home anywhere, providing them convenient, affordable way to keep in touch, stay informed and be entertained,” Woisard said.
Pivot service is available in two basic plans: Pivot Voice and Pivot Plus. Both plans include unlimited mobile-to-home calling, linked voice mail, unlimited home forwarding and combined billing. The Pivot Plus plan also includes unlimited use of Cox Mobile TV, mobile e-mail, Sprint Music Premier, Sprint Navigation service and other features.
