CVS/Caremark March sales climb 7%

Woonsocket-based CVS/Caremark Corp. reports that sales in March at stores open at least a year increased 7 percent on demand for generic drugs, with pharmacy same-store sales rose 7.5 percent and non-pharmacy sales increased 5.9 percent.
Total revenue for the company for the five weeks ended March 31 jumped 23 percent to $4.8 billion, even though the $27.2 billion merger of CVS Corp. and Caremark Rx. Inc. that closed in March did not have an effect on revenue, according to Bloomberg News.
The nation’s third-largest drugstore chain, Rite Aid Corp., said that March same-store sales rose 3.3 percent, with pharmacy sales growing 3.4 percent, with non-pharmacy sales gaining 3.1 percent.
CVS/Caremark Corp. (NYSE: CVS) includes 6,200 CVS/pharmacy stores, the CVS.com online pharmacy, pharmacy benefit manager and mail-order and specialty pharmacy Caremark Pharmacy Services and retail-based health care provider MinuteClinic.
