Davol breaks ground on future home in Warwick

Davol Inc. of Cranston today broke ground for a 120,000-square-foot headquarters building at at 100 Crossings Blvd., Warwick. The 11 a.m. ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Gov. Donald L. Carcieri and U.S. Sen. Jack Reed.

The project “represents Davol’s investment and commitment to its future in Rhode Island,” the company said in a statement. The Davol buiding will anchor the Offices at the Crossings, Carpionato Properties Inc.’s newest office park in Rhode Island.

“Today’s announcement furthers the 133-year partnership between the State of Rhode Island and Davol,” Daniel W. LaFever, the company’s president, said in a statement. “We’re very excited about our new facility and look forward to becoming part of the community in Warwick.”

The new headquarters will house Davol’s research and development, marketing and administration functions. With room for 300 employees, it also will allow the company to grow beyond its current staff of 200 on-site and 110 field sales workers.

The company expects to move to the Warwick facility in early 2008.

Davol, founded in Providence in 1874 by Joseph Davol, and acquired in 1980 by medical technology giant C.R. Bard Inc., is a developer and marketer of surgical specialty products.
