PROVIDENCE – The 11th annual DESIGN WEEK RI begins Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 20, showcasing Rhode Island designers with a lineup of presentations, tours and events, including a keynote address by Def Jam Recordings founder creative director Cey Adams.
The week’s kickoff party will be held at Moniker Brewery in Providence on Sept. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. Adams, who is billed as the artist "who designed hip-hop's visual language," will be the keynote speaker at the Rhode Island School of Design on Sept. 17.
During this year’s open studio sessions will include spaces throughout the state. On Sept. 13, the public will have the chance to view the work in Providence of up-and-coming designers from Johnson & Wales University at the Bowen Center Gallery, as well as mingle with established design firms in Providence including Kite Architects Inc., New England Medical Innovation Center LLC, Nova Design LLC, Union Studio Architecture & Community Design Inc. and others.
On Sept. 14, open studios stretch across northern Rhode Island, including Myrth Ceramics LLC in East Providence, the Map Center Inc. in Pawtucket, BIG NAZO RI in Providence, Studio Occasionally Here with Nest Homeware in Cranston, and Downcity Design in Providence.
On Sept. 15, southern Rhode Island studios will open their doors, including The Mill at Shady Lea in North Kingstown, New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich, the University of Rhode Island Design Studio and Innovation Labs in South Kingstown, and M.HAINEY Perfume and Design Studio in East Greenwich.
The week will also feature 19 curated events hosted by DESIGNxRI and other Rhode Island organizations such as (add)ventures, Isgenuity LLC, Octo Product Development Inc. and Brown University
DESIGN WEEK RI spotlights the state’s design talents, from emerging voices to industry veterans, offering a platform for designers to showcase their work and connect with the local creative community.
