On July 23, the Carpionato Group proposed using the Newport Grand casino site for a $100 million mixed-use development, calling it “Newport North End.” The project would include two hotels, two six-story apartment buildings and research, office, medical, retail and restaurant space. The company is looking at the 23.6-acre project as a complement to the planned Newport Resilience Innovation District, something it dubs an “amenity anchor.” Do you think that the idea is a good one?
