SMITHFIELD – After almost 50 years as a family-owned business, Douglas Lumber Corp. has been acquired by Builders FirstSource Inc., a Texas-based manufacturer and supplier of building materials.
Terms of the Oct. 1 acquisition were not disclosed. Douglas Lumber President Steven Carlino said in a news release that the existing management team will continue to lead the company, and the name of the lumber yard along Douglas Pike will not change.
"It would be business as usual for our customers," he said.
“My wife, Joanne, my son Steven Jr. and I have been very fortunate to grow a business I started with my father in the 1970s: a business that has flourished thanks to the hard work of our many dedicated employees past and present, who will get to share in our continued success,” Carlino said.
The Douglas Lumber website said the business had a 100,000-square-foot building on a 15-acre lot, making it one of the largest independent lumber yards in the Northeast.
Based in Irving, Texas, Builders FirstSource is a Fortune 500 company that supplies structural building products, value-added components and services to the professional market for new residential construction and repair and remodeling.
