CRANSTON – Federal Electronics Inc. has been selected to build interconnect assemblies for the Trident submarine missile guidance system.
The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory Inc. chose the electronics manufacturer to build assemblies as part of the Trident II MK6 Life Extension Guidance System, which aims to extend the life of the missile guidance systems while reducing the Navy’s future maintenance and support costs.

Draper Labs, founded as the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory in the 1930s but spun off from the school in 1973, is serving as the Navy’s prime contractor for the MK6 project, and is overseeing the major subcontractors, including Federal Electronics.
The company estimates that product and process qualification for the assemblies will be completed in the first quarter of 2010, and production will begin mid-year.
Federal Electronics was founded in 1948. The company provides electronics manufacturing services such as circuit board, fiber optic interconnect, and cable and wire harness assemblies for military prime contractors and original equipment manufacturers.
The manufacturer has been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 and AS9100 Revision B certification, which sets requirements for quality control in electronics manufacturing services. Federal has also earned an International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) certification that shows its adherence to rules controlling the export and import of military technologies.
