PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen for the fourth week in a row and are 10 cents per gallon less than a month ago, AAA Southern New England reported Tuesday.
The auto club’s Sept. 7 survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular at Ocean State stations was $2.65 per gallon, down 1 cent from last week.
The current price is 3 cents below the national average for regular unleaded. In Rhode Island, prices ranged from $2.53 to $2.79.
Prices also fell in Massachusetts for the second consecutive week. The AAA survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular was $2.61 per gallon in the Bay State, down 2 cents from last week and 7 cents over the last two weeks.
Prices in the Bay State ranged from $2.45 to $2.89.
“Labor Day marked the end of the U.S. summer driving season, the peak gasoline demand period. Refiners often idle processing units for maintenance in September and October as gasoline consumption drops and before heating-oil use increases,” Bloomberg News reported, pointing to a Barclays Capital report that notes the New York crude market “continues to be weighed down by high U.S. onshore inventory levels,” and pending refinery maintenance.
At stations in Rhode Island this week, the survey found average self-serve prices of $2.81 per gallon for midgrade unleaded, $2.93 for premium unleaded gasoline, and $2.95 for diesel.
