WALTHAM, Mass. – An agreement between Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline and the Canaport liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Saint John, New Brunswick announced last week is expected to benefit Massachusetts natural gas users.
Calling the agreement a “historic event for the North American natural gas industry and the Maritimes pipeline system,” Maritimes said in a news release that it has begun receipt and redelivery of LNG from supplier Canaport.
In January, Maritimes completed its latest phase of development to facilitate delivery of natural gas from the Canaport LNG terminal to markets in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Atlantic Canada. The project, built under a long-term service contract with Repsol Energy North America, is expected to double Maritimes’ U.S. yearly mainline capacity to approximately 800 million cubic feet per day. •
