Mass. board: Boost efforts to help working adults

LAWRENCE – The Mass. Workforce Investment Board has issued a report that calls for strengthening the capacity of Adult Basic Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ABE/ESOL) programs. The board said the move would help more working adults in the state find and keep jobs.
Announced at a board meeting in Lawrence Sept. 10, the report said that too few working adults are able to access the basic skills and education training needed to compete in the global economy.
“Tens of thousands of working adults are being left behind in today’s global economy because they have not been able to access workplace education that will provide them with new skills that can help them move up the economic ladder,” said Gov. Deval L. Patrick, who attended the meeting.
