MIDDLETOWN – The U.S. Navy has awarded McLaughlin Research Corp. a five-year contract worth up to $10.5 million for acoustic-system support services at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport.
McLaughlin said the task order is for systems engineering, logistics and field engineering services to support NUWC’s Acoustic Augmentation Support Program. The company has been providing similar services there since 1991.

“I am very pleased with this vote of confidence from our customers in the Acoustic Augmentation Support Program,” McLaughlin President Warren Blakeley said in a statement. The company “is very proud to continue to provide support for this very important submarine program,” he said.
McLaughlin’s subcontractors on the task order are BAE Systems Inc., Middletown-based I Squared Systems LLC and Raytheon Co. subsidiary BBN Technologies.
McLaughlin Research, founded in 1941 and incorporated in 1947, has about 200 employees in Rhode Island, with other offices in New London, Conn., Lexington, Mass., Keyport, Wash., Arlington, Va., and San Diego.
