Miriam Hospital raises more than $783K at annual gala

PROVIDENCE – At the annual Miriam Hospital Gala & Auction held Saturday, April 21, more than 550 guests helped raise $783,195 for the nonprofit hospital.

Of the total raised, $403,450 will go to support the addition of another nurse practitioner to the palliative care team at the hospital’s Leonard and Adele R. Decof Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the Lifespan Cancer Institute.

Funds from the gala will also go towards the the Miriam Fund for a New Generation which, according to the hospital, provides, “vital resources to support areas with the greatest funding needs, including patient care services, educational programs, and innovative research projects.”

During the live auction and fund-a-need event, Suzanne Gilstein, a longtime Miriam Hospital philanthropist, announced she would match all gifts made at the $2,500, $1,000 and $500 levels, up to a total of $100,000.

“I could not be more thankful,” of the gala’s leadership team and sponsors said Miriam Hospital President Arthur J. Sampson in a statement. “The generosity exhibited tonight by Suzanne Gilstein and all of our supporters will make a dramatic and lasting difference in the delivery of our cancer programs to our patients and their families.”

The event was co-chaired by Robin and Marcus Ansell. Sponsors included Amica Mutual Insurance Co., University Orthopedics, Amica Companies Foundation, Amaral Revite General Contractors and Med Tech Ambulance Service.
