PROVIDENCE – Rebecca "Becky" Nuger, a former Hasbro Inc. marketing and brand executive, has been named the next state tourism leader at R.I. Commerce Corp. Charged with leading the state’s marketing and tourism efforts and working closely with tourism regions and leadership at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport, the position has been vacant since Anika Kimble-Huntley departed in April 2025 for a job with Las Vegas-based Resorts World Inc. The former senior director of global brand strategy at Hasbro, Nuger has 15 years of experience in marketing and partnership development and holds a bachelor's degree in advertising from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. "I’m honored to join the R.I. Commerce team at such an exciting moment for our state. Rhode Island has extraordinary assets, from its people and culture to its innovation and small business community," she said in a Tuesday news release. "I look forward to working closely with partners across the state to elevate Rhode Island’s brand, tell its story on a national and international stage, and ensure our marketing efforts drive meaningful economic impact for communities statewide." Nuger "will help to extend that trend by showcasing our state as a great destination for visitors, innovators, and businesses,” said Secretary of Commerce Stefan Pryor. “Given her talent and skill, Becky is a great addition to the Commerce team.” Rhode Island’s tourism industry comprises 14% of the state’s total private sector employment. The year before the pandemic hit in 2019, traveler spending reached $4.7 billion, generating $843 million in state and local taxes. In a statement, Gov. Daniel J. McKee said Nuger starts her tenure “at a time of strong momentum for our state" and "brings experience that will be key to sustaining and expanding our success to keep Rhode Island competitive and a top destination." Regional tourism leaders said they look forward to working with Nuger. "Tourism is a vital and thriving industry that brings tens of millions of dollars into Rhode Island," said Kristen Adamo, president and CEO of the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Rhode Island may be small, but each region is so unique, and we look forward to collaborating to show others how grand our state truly is," added Elizabeth Dunton, acting director of tourism for the city of Warwick.
