NORTH KINGSTOWN – Ocean State Community Wellness, a nonprofit associated with Ocean State Job Lot, has signed a purchase and sale agreement to purchase the former West Bay YMCA building.
The building, at 7540 Post Road, will be renovated and reopened as a nonprofit, community-based health and wellness center.
The sale price was not disclosed.
The YMCA of Greater Providence closed its West Bay branch on April 30, citing fiscal and major infrastructure issues.
Following a renovation, the nonprofit operated by Ocean State Job Lot will reopen the building in the fall and operate community-based health programming. The efforts will be led by Kevin Brochu, who has been involved in the health and wellness industry for more than 20 years.
The YMCA will continue to offer programs and services in the town through the public school system and the town beach, according to its director.
