PPS awards historic property markers

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Preservation Society (PPS) today announced its historic property marker awards for the first half of 2007.

PPS recognized buildings that have contributed to the “understanding and appreciation” of Providence’s unique architectural, historical and cultural heritage. The buildings are all at least 50 years old, well maintained, and retain the integrity of their design, according to the society.

The PPS Historic Property Markers awarded the following properties:

Mowry-Nicholson House, built 1856, 1867, 1877 – 57 Brownell St., Italianate villa, Smith Hill neighborhood

Sylvester E. Kelly House, built 1854-1859 Harrison St., Italianate style, Broadway-Armory Historic District

Jeanette B. Huntoon House, built 1924-1925 – 63 Manning Street, Federal Revival, College Hill neighborhood

Richard & Mary Howland House, built 1893, Gilbane Bros., Builders – 69 Manning St., Colonial Revival, College Hill neighborhood

Julius H. Preston House, Built 1905-1906, B.S.D. Martin, Architect – 130 Lloyd St., Colonial Revival, College Hill neighborhood

William & Jenne Whittemore House, Vere W. Beck, Builder, built 1891 – 156-158 Prospect St., Victorian, College Hill neighborhood
