PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island cash collections in August totaled $278.4 million, a 3.2% increase year over year, according to the R.I. Department of Revenue Thursday.
Sales and use tax collections increased 9.2% year over year to $109.6 million, while personal income tax collection totaled $95.8 million, a 3.8% increase year over year.

Lottery transfer declined 7% year over year to $30.8 million.
Departmental receipts for the month totaled $15.6 million, a 4.6% increase from one year prior.
General business taxes increased 19.2% year over year to $9.5 million.
Fiscal year to date in August, cash collections in Rhode Island totaled $688.4 million, a 2.8% decline from fiscal-year-to-date collections one year prior.
The report also included details of July lottery figures:
- Video lottery terminal revenue at Twin River Casino Hotel totaled $19.6 million, a 16.7% decline year over year. VLT revenue at Tiverton Casino Hotel totaled $5.1 million, an increase of 101% from one year prior from Newport Grand figures. The license at Newport Grand was transferred to Tiverton Casino Hotel after Newport Grand closed.
- Traditional game revenue to the state declined 8.4% year over year in July to $3.1 million.
- Table game revenue at Twin River Casino declined 35.3% year over year to $845,887. Table game revenue at Tiverton Casino Hotel totaled $104,494 for the month.
- Sports betting revenue for the state in July totaled $414,219.
