
PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Foundation announced Monday it has awarded $481,000 in grants to 26 local animal-welfare programs organized by nonprofits and municipalities.
The foundation said the funds will support several services offered by the programs, including low-cost veterinary care for pets within low-income households, animal adoption preparation and wildlife rehabilitation.

Adrian Bonéy, who oversees the foundation’s Program for Animal Welfare, said in a statement Monday that the generosity from donors and the foundation’s grantee partners is expanding humane education, increasing care options for shelter animals and pets owned by low-income households, and improving the quality of animal care in Rhode Island.
The grants ranged between $2,500 and $40,000, with some organizations receiving multiple grants, the foundation said. The organizations and municipalities that received funding from the foundation are:
