R.I. gas prices decline 1 cent this week

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 1 cent this week to $2.74 per gallon, 2 cents below the national average of $2.76 per gallon and 13 cents lower than prices at this time last year.

Prices ranged 37 cents from $2.62 to $2.99 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.19 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $3.21 per gallon, ranging from $3.09 to $3.39 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.06 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.35 per gallon.

“Gasoline stocks remain robust amid a recent dip in demand, which could be one reason we are seeing pump prices stable or starting to roll back,” said AAA Northeast Manager of Public Affairs & Traffic Safety Diana Imondi in a statement. “It is too soon to know if this is a long-term trend, but it is certainly a welcome relief for motorists.”

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas remained unchanged this week at $2.70 per gallon, 6 cents lower than the national average and 10 cents lower than prices at this time last year.

Prices ranged 52 cents from $2.53 per gallon to $3.05 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.90 per gallon, ranging from $2.79 to $3.25 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $3.07 per gallon, ranging from $2.95 to $3.45 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.03 per gallon, ranging from $2.79 to $3.39 per gallon.
