PROVIDENCE – As part of the fiscal 2011 spending bill, Rhode Island will receive more than $25.75 million for community-development and affordable housing programs, U.S. Sen. Jack Reed announced Tuesday.
“This is a flexible source of federal funding that will help create jobs and boost economic development in neighborhoods and communities throughout Rhode Island. These targeted investments will help get more people working again. They will enable cities and towns to increase affordable housing, upgrade public facilities, and partner with nonprofits to address some of their greatest needs,” said Reed.
Rhode Island-run U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs that will receive funding include: the Community Development Block Grants, the Home Investment Partnership, the Emergency Shelter Grants and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with HIV/AIDS.

Under HOPWA, providing grants to entities offering housing assistance and related services to low-income individuals who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, Providence will receive $872,012.
