PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices have fallen for the fourth week in a row in Rhode Island as the cost of a gallon declined by 4 cents, AAA Southern New England reported today.
The auto club’s July 20 survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular at Ocean State stations was $2.59 per gallon. That was down 4 cents from the average last week and a decline of 11 cents in the past month. The price is up 93 cents since the start of the year, however.

The cost of gas surged this spring as the market price of crude oil rose, but prices have been falling in recent weeks amid worrying signs for the global economy.
In its survey, AAA found prices in Rhode Island ranging from $2.45 to $2.68 per gallon for unleaded regular. At $2.59, the average price per gallon in Rhode Island is 13 cents higher than the average price nationwide of $2.46.
A year ago, gas prices in Rhode Island had declined from recent record highs to $4.03 per gallon, according to AAA.
In Massachusetts, the survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular was $2.49 per gallon, down 7 cents from last week and 10 cents below the price in Rhode Island.
At stations in Rhode Island this week, the survey found average self-serve prices of $2.74 per gallon for midgrade unleaded, $2.85 for premium unleaded gasoline, and $2.64 for diesel.

Why haven’t those prices dropped on Aquidneck Island? No change lower in at least a month, despite falling prices elsewhere. Still in the mid to high $2.60s, yet lower by $0.20 and more elsewhere in RI, once you cross any bridge. Gouging the residents & tourists?
