R.I., others settle with EPA on Clean Air suit

MONTPELIER, Vt. – Rhode Island, 10 other states, the District of Columbia and New York City settled lawsuits against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency following the agency’s announcement that it will establish greenhouse gas pollution standards under provisions of the Clean Air Act.
According to The Boston Globe, the agreement followed a decision by the Obama administration to move through regulatory channels to clamp down on emissions after Congress failed to act on new legislation.
The plaintiffs’ suit sought to compel the agency to issue new standards for greenhouse gas emissions. The regulations will focus on coal plants and oil refineries, two of the largest sources of greenhouse gases, The Globe said. &#8226
