PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Transportation received five national communications awards from the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials at the National Transportation Public Affairs Workshop in Tacoma, Wash., on Aug. 9.
RIDOT’s communications office received first place awards in the following categories:
•Annual Report
•Feature Story
•Newspaper or Magazine Print Ad
•Print or Electronic Media Kit
•Public Relations Professional of the Year
Dana Alexander Nolfe, RIDOT’s chief public affairs officer, was recognized as The Public Relations Professional of the Year for her hard work on the demolition of the Old Jamestown Bridge, the Iway Providence Signature Bridge float up Narragansett Bay and on the 50th Anniversary of the Interstate, which also received the best Feature Story award. Nolfe has been working with RIDOT for a decade.
“RIDOT is extremely proud of its Communications Office,” said Jerome F. Williams, RIDOT’s Director. “Under Dana’s direction this office has won approximately 20 national awards, and she and her staff all deserve recognition for this achievement.”
The campaign that updates the public regarding overnight construction closures on I-95 and I-195, “While you are sleeping … RIDOT will be busy working on the Iway” received The Newspaper or Magazine Print Ad award. The Print or Electronic Media Kit award was given to RIDOT for the Providence River Bridge float press, released last summer.
