RiverzEdge Arts Project picked as a ‘Champion’

WOONSOCKET – Citizens Bank of Rhode Island and WJAR/NBC 10 last week named the RiverzEdge Arts Project as their second-quarter “Champion in Action” in youth programming, awarding a $25,000 grant plus promotional and volunteer support.

RiverzEdge, which provides after-school and summer arts programs, serves at-risk and underserved youth in northern Rhode Island, aiming to give them tools for self-sufficiency, educational success and leadership development.

“RiverzEdge engages teenagers in a lifestyle of disciplined effort, creative self-expression and economic self-reliance,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, Citizens’ chairman, president and CEO.

Launched in 2002, Champions in Action is a joint initiative of Citizens and NBC 10 to recognize and support local nonprofits. A winner for the third quarter – this time in the environmental field – will be announced in early July.
