Solar panels up at BCC

FALL RIVER – Bristol Community College has installed about 420 solar panels at its Fall River location, The Herald News reported.
The panels on the Hudnall administration building, Siegel health technologies building and facilities building will save the college about $18,000 a year, the paper reported. Combined with other energy projects – such as insulating walls and windows, automating the heating systems and installing energy-efficient lighting – the school hopes to save $442,000 annually.
The paper said the state paid for the $5 million of improvements.
“The less-sexy things really are what subsidize things like the solar panels,” Jamie Pike, a project manager with Constellation Energy, which audited the campus’s energy use last year, told The Herald News.
The community college is a member of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, an effort to encourage schools to lower their greenhouse gas emissions, reduce their environmental impact and make environmental sustainability part of the curriculum.
