NEWPORT – The 200-foot-tall SSV Oliver Hazard Perry tall ship is prepared for a full year of travel including stops in Charleston, S.C., St. Petersburg, Fla., Cuba and Jamaica.
“We are so proud of how far our programs have come and the variety of programs ahead of us,” said Jessica Wurzbacher, executive director of nonprofit organization Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island, which manages the ship’s schedule.

Participants 18 years of age or older can enroll in the Charleston, S.C., to St. Petersburg, Fla., trip to be made by the state’s official sailing-education vessel, which will take place from Jan. 28 to Feb. 11. High school students are the target demographic of the OSV’s second 2018 trip – a March 4-17 run to Cuba.
Throughout April, OSV will take part in the Tall Ships Challenge Gulf Coast 2018, a collection of races and port festivals in Galveston, Texas, Pensacola, Fla., and New Orleans.
A second run for participants aged 18-plus will take place April 25 to May 10 when the ship sails from New Orleans to Annapolis, Md.
