TDs net Taunton program funds

TAUNTON – The touchdown tally for the Taunton High School football earned $875 for the school’s athletics programs.
That’s because at the start of the football season, Mechanics Cooperative Bank pledged to donate $25 to the Taunton High School Athletics Booster Club for every touchdown the school scored this season.
The team racked up 36 touchdowns on the way to a 6-5 record. Taunton edged Coyle Cassidy High School on Thanksgiving Day, 8-7, in the season finale.
“We couldn’t be happier the Tigers had a great scoring season in 2009 – and I would like to personally congratulate each member of the Tigers team,” said Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and chief executive officer of Mechanics Cooperative Bank.
Said Phil Johnson, president of the Taunton High School Athletic Boosters: “The generous support of Mechanics Cooperative Bank has had a huge impact on our 2009 fundraising efforts. We think it was a great sponsorship and truly thank Mechanics Cooperative Bank for their support.”
Mechanics Cooperative Bank, established in 1877, is Massachusetts’ second-oldest co-operative bank. The bank has about $380 million in total assets, and branches throughout Bristol County. For additional information, visit www.Mechanics-Coop.com.
