Trinity Rep to revive ‘Prince of Providence’ in June 2021

PROVIDENCE The record-breaking theatrical production about Providence’s infamous former mayor will be given an encore.

Trinity Repertory Company will revive its production of “The Prince of Providence” on a limited basis in June 2021, the Providence-based theater organization announced Wednesday.

The production will close out the 2020-21 Trinity Rep season. Details, show schedule and cast will be announced at a later date, Trinity Rep said. Tickets will be available only to Trinity Rep subscribers until spring 2021, with 2019-20 season subscribers being granted first access to tickets in February 2020, the organization said.

The Prince of Providence was based on the New York Times bestseller written by former Providence Journal reporter Mike Stanton, which covered the rise and fall of former Providence mayor Vincent A. “Buddy” Cianci Jr.

The show, which ran for seven weeks from Sept. 16 through Oct. 27, became Trinity Rep’s highest-grossing, non-holiday production before its opening night in the organization’s 56-year history, playing to sold-out audiences throughout its run. “My Fair Lady” set the previous record in 2000 and more than 13,000 people saw “The Prince of Providence” during its run.
