Verizon wireless a speedy solution for customers

In the February 26 issue of Providence Business News, Verizon Wireless was pleased to see reporting of the company’s latest wireless broadband network enhancement (“Verizon wireless network is now 5 or 6 times faster”), which further increases the (high) speed of wireless broadband for the vast majority of Rhode Island residents and visitors.
Surprisingly, in the very same issue, a Question and Answer column by John P. Mello (“Seizing the opportunities as WiMAX comes of age”) contained several inaccuracies concerning our high-speed BroadbandAccess service – most notably, that the service was “extremely slow.” Other than inaccurate statements by a CEO whose company competes with us, there was no verification of his responses.
Verizon Wireless offers the nation’s most reliable wireless broadband network to more than 200 million people in 240 major domestic markets. Our industry ranking as the wireless carrier with the highest customer loyalty directly correlates to our network quality and reliability.
BroadbandAccess can be accessed via laptops, handsets and PDAs to wirelessly surf the Internet, check e-mail, and download attachments – all at tested and confirmed average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and upload speeds of 500-800 kbps, with bursts capable of 2 megabytes per second. These speeds translate into a customer’s ability to download a 1 megabyte e-mail attachment in less than 15 seconds – a speed that far exceeds the competing CEO’s characterization as “slower than dialup.”
