WARWICK – The Warwick public schools system has cut sports and clubs, textbooks and teachers’ assistants, among other things, following the approval of a $174 million school budget by the Warwick School Committee, WJAR-TV NBC 10 reported Wednesday.
The cuts to offerings from the school system come following the district receiving $7 million less than it had asked for from City Council in the city budget.

The school committee said that it was attempting to restore the funding.
The school system already initiated a school consolidation plan due to declining enrollment in the district.The consolidation plan was designed to enable the district to lower costs.
Students protested the cuts to the districts offerings Wednesday.
Officials noted that the school committee and the city have been in mediation.
