Spirit Airlines, a low-fare airline, announced Thursday that beginning on Oct. 28 it will introduce daily non-stop service from T.F. Green Airport in Providence to Detroit, Fort Lauderdale (twice daily), and Fort Myers with connecting service to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Juan, and Cancun, Mexico.
“The gateway to New England has spirit -Spirit Airlines, that is!” said Jacob Schorr, CEO and president of Spirit Airlines, in a release. “We are delighted to serve New England at T.F. Green Airport in order to meet and grow the demand for low-fare, low-cost service to these terrific destinations, including our two focus cities of Detroit and Fort Lauderdale.”

“It is significant that Spirit Airlines has chosen to fly from T.F. Green Airport, and we welcome them to Rhode Island,” said James V. Rosati, chair of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation Board of Directors, in a release. “The ability to offer low-fare, non-stop service to these top destinations is great for our travelers, and we expect they will respond enthusiastically to these new flights.”
Introductory fares will be offered on flights booked by Sept. 6 for travel between Oct. 28 and Dec. 15, 2004 (blackout dates from Nov. 23 through 29) when booking at spiritair.com.
