PROVIDENCE – Evelyn Jane Ross, a 2016 alumna of the Rhode Island School of Design, was named one of nine student finalists by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, also known as BAFTA, in its student award competition.
Culled from over 400 submissions by students at film schools across 15 countries, Ross’ film “Adam” was one of three finalists in the animation category.

This is the first year schools from countries outside the United Kingdom were invited to submit films for recognition. Previously, U.S.-based students could compete in the BAFTA US Student Film Award. In 2016 Clara Roquet from Columbia University won for “El Adiós” and the Special Jury Prize was awarded to Seth Boyden from California Institute for the Arts for “An Object at Rest.”
Now, nine submissions per school are allowed for judgement by the event’s panel in competition for four prizes: the BAFTA Student Film Award for Animation presented by LAIKA, the Student Film Award for Documentary, the Student Film Award for Live Action Film and the Special Jury Prize.
The gala ceremony, at which winners will be announced, is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Ace Hotel’s theatre in Los Angeles.
