PROVIDENCE – Two CVS Health Corp. workers in Rhode Island are facing felony charges after they allegedly stole drugs from the stores they were working in. The workers, Sarah Kolb and Lindsey Schneck, are both pharmacy technicians and have had their licenses suspended, according to a consent order and agreements from the Rhode Island Department of Health. Kolb was working at a CVS Pharmacy in Warwick from November 2023 to April 2024. RIDOH says it learned in April 2024 that Kolb was diverting phentermine – a stimulant that’s classified as a controlled substance understate law – from the store. Kolb appeared before the Board of Pharmacy Investigative Committee in June 2024 and admitted to diverting no more than 50 phentermine pills for her own use. Kolb agreed to a six-month suspension and a one year probation period if she gets her license back. Court records show Kolb was arrested by Warwick police in April on larceny of a controlled substance and has not yet posted a $1,000 bond. Schneck was employed at a CVS Pharmacy in Cumberland from June 2023 to February 2024, according to RIDOH. In February CVS notified RIDOH that Schneck had been diverting benzodiazepines from the store she worked in. Schneck admitted to the Board of Pharmacy Investigator she had taken the benzodiazepines. She also said she had undergone treatment and was willing to cooperate with the Pharmacy Board. Then in May Schneck appeared before the Board of Pharmacy Investigative Committee where she said she had a prescription for benzodiazepines from her physicians and she diverted the drugs for her own use. Schneck also said she was working with medical providers and a court-sponsored program to avoid using controlled substances. Schneck agreed to a one year suspension, during which she must participate in a drug rehabilitation or recovery program and remain on one year probation if she gets her license back. Court records show Schneck was arrested by both the Central Falls and Cumberland Police Departments in February and charged with felony counts of embezzlement and fraudulent conversion. She was let go on $5,000 bond and referred to a Superior Court Diversion Program. “We’re deeply committed to preventing the diversion of drugs from our pharmacies,” said CVS spokesperson Michael DeAngelis. “Our internal monitoring systems detected both of these incidents.
