PROVIDENCE – Ten municipalities have been awarded approximately $3.6 million in federal community-development grants, Gov. Daniel J. McKee announced Wednesday. Administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Community Development Block Grant program provides annual grants to states, cities and counties to foster sustainable communities. The funding awarded Wednesday will support critical public facility and infrastructure projects, as well as essential services that directly benefit Rhode Island residents, particularly those with low and moderate incomes. “Investing in our communities is investing in our people,” McKee said. “These grants will help ensure that our towns and neighborhoods have the facilities, infrastructure and services they need to thrive. From safer streets to enhanced public spaces, these projects make Rhode Island a stronger, more equitable place for everyone.” Municipalities that received funding include:

Bristol: $500,000 for the Walley Community Resource and Senior Center.
Central Falls: $500,000 for the Jenks Park Improvements, Phase 2 and $150,000 for The ELISHA Project.
Coventry: $40,000 for expansion of services for Coventry youth.
Jamestown: $500,000 for Jamestown Senior Center renovation.
Middletown: $350,000 for Bloom Court and $50,000 for Lacy’s Hearth.
Newport: $180,000 for McKinney Shelter, $371,260 for HACN Security Enhancements, $25,000 for LU Dexter Ave, $40 for BCAP dental equipment and $50,000 for hunger relief for Newport County.
North Kingstown: $5,000 for North Kingstown Recreation Playgrounds Summer Camp and $138,000 for housing services for North Kingstown homeless households.
West Warwick: $300,000 for Phenix Infrastructure, $140,000 for Arctic Infrastructure and $70,000 for paramedic program.
Westerly: $130,000 for medical assistant training at Westerly Education Center and $70,000 for WARM Respite.
