3 R.I. ambulatory surgery centers named high performing by U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report — CANDESCENT EYE Surgicenter and Orthopedics Rhode Island Surgery Center, both in Warwick, and University Orthopedics East Bay Surgery Center in East Providence each earned a high performing designation in U.S. News & World Report’s "2026 Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers" ranking released Tuesday.

PROVIDENCE – Three Rhode Island medical facilities each earned a high performing distinction in U.S. News & World Report’s "2026 Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers" ranking. Candescent Eye Surgicenter and Orthopedics Rhode Island Surgery Center, both in Warwick, and University Orthopedics East Bay Surgery Center in East Providence each earned the honor in the publication’s third annual ranking released Tuesday. In total, 16 Rhode Island centers were recognized among the nearly 4,421 surgery facilities throughout the U.S. The publication rated centers in four specialty areas – colonoscopy and endoscopy, ophthalmology, orthopedics and spine, and urology. This year, shoulder replacements were included under orthopedics and spine. U.S. News & World Report said ambulatory surgery centers were evaluated based on objective and risk-adjusted measures of their patients’ outcomes, including how successfully they avoided complications, ER visits, unplanned hospitalizations and other undesirable outcomes. To ensure fair comparisons among ambulatory surgery centers, the analysis accounted for each patient’s preexisting conditions and other risk factors. “As more complex procedures move out of the hospital and into community-based surgery centers, patients need a reliable way to evaluate their options,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News & World Report. “U.S. News’ ratings are designed to give consumers peace of mind by highlighting the centers that consistently provide the highest level of care, from the moment a patient checks in to their successful recovery at home.” Orthopedics Rhode Island Surgery Center and University Orthopedics East Bay Surgery Center were both named best for orthopedics and spine. Candescent Eye Surgicenter was named best for ophthalmology. In Bristol County, Mass., Advanced Eye Surgery Center in Dartmouth earned a high performing distinction in ophthalmology.
