Beaumont, under contract by National Grid, will construct and maintain the three sites. The New Bedford-based company’s total solar energy management in Rhode Island, once its systems come online, will amount to approximately 1.3 MW.
The local projects represent nearly 800 kW of low-cost, renewable solar energy for private use by three Rhode Island businesses, which include Cranston-based metal refiners Gannon & Scott Inc., North Kingstown-based food distributor All American Foods Inc., and Newport Vineyards and Winery LLC.
Beaumont currently has an additional 500 kW under construction in the state, though not under contract with National Grid.
The recent solar project approvals were part of National Grid’s round of awards in its Rhode Island Renewable Distribution General Standard Contract enrollment process, which began in March 2013. National Grid screened applications for permitting, design and “likelihood of financing,” according to the Beaumont release, and selected projects that could begin operation within the next year and a half.
Six projects were selected on April 8, half of which were local Beaumont projects.
