PROVIDENCE – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will address the National Governors Association at the 109th Summer Meeting, the National Governors Association announced Friday.
“I am thrilled and honored that Prime Minister Trudeau will join us in Rhode Island, where governors will gather to discuss some of the top innovations and best practices happening in our states,” said Gov. Gina M. Raimondo. “Canada serves as one of the United States’ most important allies and trade partners, so we are eager to hear what the Prime Minister has to say.”

Raimondo will host the event, to be held July 13-15 at several locations in Providence and Newport. It is expected to draw 30 governors, including Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia, the chairman of the association, and Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada, the vice-chairman.
Trudeau will speak to the governors on Friday, July 14.

I am confident that meeting attendees will benefit from the Prime Minister’s important perspective on relations between our two nations and how we can strengthen the partnership that makes life better for families on both sides of our shared border.”
Issues such as trade expansion, innovation, leadership development, workforce needs and shared health care concerns, including the opioid epidemic, are on the agenda.
