WOONSOCKET – Grow Smart Rhode Island is hosting a workshop Nov. 13 that will cite the examples of Newport and Woonsocket in encouraging active transportation.
The term “active transportation” includes bicycles, pedestrians, skaters, people using wheelchairs, anything that involves human-powered transportation.

Community leaders from Newport and Woonsocket will talk about the opportunities and barriers they encountered in encouraging more active transportation. The workshop will include audience participation.
Beforehand, the Woonsocket Planning Department will host a walking tour of Main Street. The walking tour departs at 4 p.m. from St. Charles Church. The workshop event begins at 5:30 p.m. at NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley, 40 S. Main St. Refreshments will be provided.
Presenters include representatives of the cities of Providence and Woonsocket, Bike Newport, the Women’s Resource Center and Thundermist Health Center.
