TEXTMYQUIT, or TMQ, is a randomized controlled trial with two groups. Participants in the TMQ group will receive TMQ text messages for up to four weeks before their quit date and eight weeks after their quit date. Participants in the other group, called “MOJO,” will receive general motivational messages for 12 weeks. Both groups will complete surveys at enrollment, and three and six months after enrollment. Participants in either group may be asked to be part of an interview to discuss their experience.
To qualify for TMQ, a participant must be a current smoker who wants to quit, 18 or older, have a cellphone and use text messaging, have access to a doctor or health care provider, and be willing to quit smoking in the next 30 days. Participants will be compensated for their time. To see if you qualify, visit WWW.TEXTMYQUIT.COM. If you have questions about the study, call 1-877-898-7848 (1-877-TXT-QUIT).
