WARWICK – Traffic at T.F. Green Airport in 2017 increased 7.8 percent compared with 2016, with 3.9 million total passengers passing through the transportation hub, according to a T.F. Green activity summary released by the R.I. Airport Corp. this month.
Discount Airlines – Allegiant, Frontier Airlines and Norwegian Air – combined for 6.6 percent of all traffic for the year. All three airlines began service to and from T.F. Green in 2017, accounting for a large portion of the airport’s increased traffic – 259,315 of the 284,918 total passenger increase.

Southwest Airlines continued to be the largest service provider at T.F Green, processing 1.7 million passengers in 2017.
Total cargo that passed through T.F. Green in 2017 was 43.5 million pounds, compared with 27.7 million one year prior, a 57.1 percent increase. Much of that increase is attributable to shipping partners of Amazon.com Inc., which began operation of a fulfillment center in Fall River in 2017.
In December, the airport processed 346,252 passengers, a 19.6 percent increase from December 2016’s 289,534 passengers.
Southwest Airlines continued to be the largest airline operation out of Warwick with 39.4 percent of all traffic in December.
American Airlines also continued as the second-largest airline operation at T.F. Green with 21.8 percent of all traffic, 75,521 passengers.
Allegiant, Frontier Airlines and Norwegian Air combined for 16.6 percent of all traffic in December, or 57,477 passengers.
The amount of cargo processed through the airport in December increased 227.6 percent year over year from 3.5 million pounds to 11.5 million pounds. Amazon partners Air Transport International, ABX Air and Atlas Air accounted for 3.7 million pounds, 1.7 million pounds and 2.6 million pounds, respectively, in December. United Parcel Service accounted for 2 million pounds in December while Federal Express processed 1.2 million pounds of cargo.
