PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular unleaded gas in Rhode Island remains the same as last week at $2.99 per gallon, 5 cents above the national average of $2.94 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
The hold in prices follows a steady week-by-week price gain this year, happening around the nation. Regular prices in Rhode Island ranged 40 cents from $2.79 to $3.19. In June last year, the average price in Rhode Island was $2.33 per gallon, 66 cents lower than its current price.

Rhode Island this week:
- Midgrade gas averaged $3.18 per gallon, ranging from $2.97 to $3.39 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $3.36 per gallon, ranging from $3.17 to $3.49 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.22 per gallon, ranging from $3.04 to $3.39 per gallon
Massachusetts joins Rhode Island in the group of 33 states whose rise in gas prices has halted this week. Regular prices in Massachusetts ranged from $2.74 to $3.09, while the average price has risen from $2.29 to $2.92, a 63-cent increase from last year.
Massachusetts this week:
- Midgrade gas averaged $3.14 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.31 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $3.30 per gallon, ranging from $2.99 to $3.53 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.18 per gallon, ranging from $3.09 to $3.39 per gallon
“Continued growth in crude oil production is helping reduce crude prices as it signals that supply is growing alongside strong global crude demand,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs in a statement. “The spotlight will be on the June 22 OPEC meeting to see if countries like Saudi Arabia and Russia will be easing their supply reduction agreement before the end of the year.”
