PROVIDENCE – The price of regular, self-serve gasoline in Rhode Island increased 2 cents this week to $2.95 per gallon, 11 cents above the national average of $2.84 per gallon.
Prices ranged 40 cents in Rhode Island from $2.79 to $3.19 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices for regular gas were 68 cents lower at $2.27 per gallon.

- Midgrade gas averaged $3.26 this week, ranging from $3.04 to $3.49 per gallon.
- Premium unleaded gas averaged $3.39 this week, ranging from $3.08 to $3.59 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.20 this week, ranging from $3.05 to $3.45 per gallon.
“An increase in crude oil production was announced at last week’s OPEC meeting, at least 600,000 barrels per day,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “It is yet to be determined whether or not the increase in production will be enough to dramatically reduce gasoline prices. In the U.S., pump prices will not immediately be impacted.”
In Massachusetts, regular gas averaged $2.87 per gallon, the same as last week, 3 cents above the national average. Prices in Massachusetts ranged 37 cents from a low of $2.72 to a high of $3.09 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices were 67 cents lower at $2.20 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas in the Bay State averaged $3.11 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.49 per gallon.
