JOHNSTON – Citizens Bank is slated Tuesday to officially open its new corporate campus in Johnston. Rhode Island public officials and community leaders were expected to join executives from the Providence-based bank for the private ceremony.
Built at a cost of about $275 million on undeveloped land west of Interstate 295, the campus will bring together about 3,000 employees of Citizens Bank from numerous locations. The complex features 424,000 square feet of office and meeting space.

Following a ribbon-cutting, bank officials were to lead guests on a tour of the facility. Expected to join Citizens Bank Chairman and CEO Bruce Van Saun were Gov. Gina M. Raimondo, U.S. Sens. Jack F. Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, U.S. Reps. James R. Langevin and David N. Cicilline, and Johnston Mayor Joe Polisena, among others.
The campus features four connected buildings: Two with conventional office space; a third functioning as a call center; and a fourth consisting of various amenities, including a cafeteria and fitness center. In addition, Citizens paid $4 million of the $7 million cost to construct a new I-295 highway interchange near the campus.
Citizens will move employees to the campus in phases, while vacating its offices in Cranston, East Providence and Smithfield. Employees from other locations also will be moved to Johnston.
