
PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island remained unchanged this week at $2.88 per gallon, 3 cents above the national average of $2.85 per gallon.
Last year at this time, regular gas averaged 52 cents cheaper at $2.36 per gallon.

Prices in the Ocean State ranged 34 cents from a low of $2.75 to a high of $3.09 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $3.19 this week, ranging from $3.04 to $3.39 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.43, ranging from $3.24 to $3.55 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.21 per gallon, ranging from $2.99 to $3.49 per gallon.
“Both locally and nationally, prices have been relatively flat over the last few weeks, suggesting that U.S. gasoline supply and demand are balancing,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “AAA will be watching to see if spikes in demand happen closer to Labor Day as motorists squeeze in those final road trips.”
In Massachusetts, regular gas prices dropped 1 cent to $2.83 per gallon this week, ranging 36 cents from $2.69 to $3.05 per gallon.
Last year at this time, Massachusetts regular gas prices were 54 cents lower at $2.29 per gallon.
