NEWPORT – Tenth-graders from across the Ocean State are once again invited to submit essays to the annual Big Ideas for a Changing World: Write Your Way to Hamilton Essay Contest hosted by the Newport Historical Society.
This year, the nonprofit is asking contestants to respond to the following prompt: What is happening now in your community, or what could be happening, that has the power to change the future in Rhode Island and potentially the world?

The contest is open to current 10th-graders enrolled in a public or tuition-free school. Submissions will be accepted either from individuals or through their class.
Winning essay writers will be taken to New York City to see a matinee showing of “Hamilton, An American Musical” live on Broadway. Lunch and chartered bus transportation are included.
Teachers who have an award-winning student essay will be invited to join the trip as chaperones, along with historical society staff. Tickets and the trip are nontransferable.
Entries to the contest must be emailed or postmarked by March 15. Winning papers will be announced by April 5. Submission guidelines, submission form and past contest winners’ essays can be found at newporthistory.org.
