Skiba named DAISY recipient

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants neonatal intensive care unit nurse Helina Skiba was recently named the recipient of a DAISY Award at the hospital.

The award is conferred monthly in recognition of work that goes above and beyond the daily duties performed by nurses. Patients and their family members nominate staff in a program begun in California to remember the care given to J. Patrick Barnes, who suffered from a rare autoimmune disease at the end of his life.

A neonatal patient’s mother nominated Skiba. “Helina is fabulous,” the mother wrote. “She is warm, engaging, compassionate and knowledgeable. We felt like our son, Elliot, was in the best hands while we were able to get a few hours of sleep.”
